What Is a Chiropractic Physician in Florida?

In Florida, doctors of chiropractic are licensed as chiropractic physicians and use the credential D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic). Licensing is overseen by the Florida Board of Chiropractic Medicine, and you can look up any license on the Florida Department of Health鈥檚 license lookup.

Education

Chiropractic physicians complete a Doctor of Chiropractic program after undergraduate study, pass national board exams, and must hold a Florida license to practice here.

What a visit involves

A chiropractic visit usually starts with a conversation about your symptoms and history, followed by an examination of posture, movement, joints, and muscles, often with orthopedic and neurological screening tests. If care is appropriate, it may include adjustments, soft-tissue therapy, and exercises.

Knowing when to refer

Part of a chiropractic physician鈥檚 job is recognizing when something needs a different kind of care. At Therapy & Injury, when a patient needs a medical evaluation, imaging, or care outside chiropractic scope, we refer them to an independent medical provider.

After a car accident

In Florida, a chiropractic physician is among the licensed providers who can provide the initial care that PIP generally requires within 14 days of an accident. Learn more about the 14-day rule.
